Privacy Notice
Last updated: 14 August 2026
Genre Dive collects almost nothing about you. There is no analytics script on this site, no advertising, no tracking, no profiling, and no newsletter signup form. This notice explains the little that does happen, because you are entitled to know it even when the answer is small.
Who we are
This site is operated by Curious Ear Media LLC, a Colorado limited liability company trading as Genre Dive. Curious Ear Media LLC is the data controller for the purposes of the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation.
You can reach us at admin@genredive.com for any question about this notice or about your personal data.
The Mixcloud player, and what it means for you
Please read this part even if you skip the rest.
Every episode page contains an audio player provided by Mixcloud, where the shows are hosted. That player loads automatically when the page loads. It does not wait for you to click, and it does not wait for you to press play.
This means that simply visiting an episode page sends your IP address to Mixcloud, along with information your browser routinely provides, before you have interacted with anything. Mixcloud may also set its own cookies or use similar technologies once the player has loaded. What Mixcloud does with that information is governed by Mixcloud’s own privacy policy, not by this one.
We have chosen to load the player this way deliberately, because the player is the point of an episode page and hiding it behind an extra click makes the site worse to use. We think you should be told plainly rather than have the trade-off made quietly on your behalf. If you would prefer not to share anything with Mixcloud, do not visit episode pages — the rest of the site does not load the player.
Two related things, for completeness. Nothing on this site plays audio automatically. The player loads, but sound only ever starts when you press play. And the artwork you see on episode pages is generated by us; no third-party images are loaded from anywhere.
What we collect
Server logs. Our hosting provider records standard web server logs for every request: your IP address, the type of browser and device you are using, the page you requested, the time of the request, and the page you arrived from. This happens automatically for any website and is not something we have switched on.
Emails you send us. If you email us, we have your email address and whatever you chose to write.
That is the complete list. We do not use analytics of any kind. We do not set cookies. The typefaces are served from our own server rather than from a font network. There is no contact form, no comments section, and no account to create.
Why we process it, and on what legal basis
| What | Why | Lawful basis |
| Server logs | Keeping the site running, diagnosing faults, and identifying abuse or attacks | Legitimate interests — operating and securing a website |
| Emails you send us | Replying to you | Legitimate interests — responding to correspondence |
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have considered whether our interest is outweighed by your rights, and concluded that keeping a website running and answering correspondence are ordinary and expected uses that a visitor would not be surprised by.
Who else is involved
- Hostinger hosts the site and generates the server logs described above.
- Cloudflare provides DNS for our domains.
- Mixcloud receives your IP address when an episode page loads its player, as described above.
Where the site links out to Apple Music, Spotify, Discogs, Bandcamp, Substack, Bluesky or anywhere else, those are ordinary links. Nothing is sent to them unless you click, at which point their own privacy policies apply.
Where your data goes
The site is hosted in the United States, and Curious Ear Media LLC is a United States company. If you are visiting from the UK or the European Economic Area, your personal data is processed in the United States.
How long we keep it
Server logs are retained for [[RETENTION]], after which they are deleted or overwritten in the ordinary course.
Emails are kept for as long as the correspondence is useful and then deleted.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- correct it if it is wrong;
- erase it in certain circumstances;
- restrict how we use it in certain circumstances;
- object to our processing where we rely on legitimate interests;
- receive a copy of it in a portable format in certain circumstances;
- withdraw consent at any time, where we have relied on consent — at present, we do not rely on consent for anything.
To exercise any of these, email admin@genredive.com. In practice, the main thing we can help with is server log data, and to find yours we would need to know the IP address and roughly when you visited.
You also have the right to complain to your data protection supervisory authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner’s Office; in the EEA it is the authority for your country.
If you are in the United States, you may have comparable rights under your state’s law. Curious Ear Media LLC does not meet the thresholds that make most state privacy statutes applicable, and we do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising — we have nothing to sell and nobody to share it with. If you would like to exercise a state-law right, email us and we will do what we can.
Some things we do not do
We do not make automated decisions about you or profile you. This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them. We do not sell, rent or trade personal data.
